This pistol is small in stature and has two .38 caliber bores. This handsome pistol would have been most at home in a gentleman’s coat pocket to have against ne’er do wells and ruffians roaming the city streets in tumultuous Europe in the early to mid-1800s, especially having two shots to fire off rather than one. This pistol could have been the type of pistol a soldier would have possibly purchased on his own to bring to battle in case he was to come into contact with the enemy. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the "Saturday Night Specials" of the 16th-18th century. Before the Deringer, they were "Gentleman's" or "Muff Pistols", typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. It is elegantly engraved on the sides of the frame and the hammers. This pistol is light and simple. The overall condition is very good. Extremely strong action. Both bores are very good. The barrels twist off for easy breech loading. Solid grip. The engravings remain sharp with very fine details. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 1-1/2 inches. Caliber: .38 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
