Description:
This 1948 Five-screw K-frame Post War double action revolver is a Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece Pre-Model 17 chambered in .22 Long Rifle. It has a serrated ramp fixed front sight, a micrometer click adjustable square notch rear sight, a six-round recessed fluted cylinder, a six inch pinned serrated rib barrel, a six-groove fore strap and back strap, and Smith and Wesson emblem diamond escutcheon wood stocks. The bluing finish on this revolver is in very good condition, with some wear at the muzzle and some on the sharp edges. The wood stocks are in very good condition, with some light handling marks on the bases; the checkering however is very crisp. The bore is very bright and shiny with crisp rifling intact. The time period that these Third Model guns were being manufactured was a very unique atmosphere. World War II had just ended and there was cause for celebration. Almost all young men had been exposed to guns. The number of shooting events in the Olympics grew from 4 to 7 during this time. There was a real demand for these guns and Smith & Wesson was very serious about producing the best gun possible. In fact, in the early days when this gun was first introduced, you had to put your name on a waiting list to get one. .22 Long Rifle
