EARLY CIVILIAN NEW ARMY/NEW NAVY .38 DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER, #11XXX, MADE 1894. Colt's first side swing revolver was introduced in 1888 as the New Navy Model. There were improvements made every few years until the model was reintroduced as the Army Special in the early part of the 20th century. This early example has the last patent date on the barrel of 1888. This early example mainly shows some poor storage as it has some light pitting on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder release and on one portion of the cylinder. The rest of the frame shows most of the fine early high polish blue. The barrel shows deep blue on the top, & bottom with the usual holster wear on the forward sides. Grip straps and cylinder show thinning blue-to gray with good blue in the flutes. Nice fire blue on the hammer back and trigger sides. Tight mech and lock up. Both grips show small chips at the rear bottom rear corners. The front sight has not been altered. Excellent bright bore. Needs the ejector head only. Matching assembly numbers on the cylinder release, frame and yoke. Hard to find these early pre-1899 double action Colts. This one is 129 years old.
