Description:
This is the Winchester Model 1892 .32-20 WCF antique lever action rifle. Serial # 9436, makes it a first year production, received in the warehouse on February 1893, per Cody letter of authentication. Barrel type round, trigger plain. The overall condition of the rifle,as judged by two independent appraisers, a certified gunsmith who deals in antiques and the owner of Ancestry Guns, is in very good. Very strong action, nice bore with sharp rifling. Walnut stock is solid with virtually no maring, scratches or dings. A slight period repair on the underside of the forearm. 24" length barrel, with the wrap around metal butt plate. The gunsmith would also rate it on the Gun Blue book at roughly 70%. I realize the book may be very relative much like the Kelly Blue book for cars. You can see there is no mottling of the metal, barrel and receiver area as they look very good condition, as if the rifle was rarely used.
I am not a antique Winchester rifle collecter per se, more into the Civil War and Wild Wests Colt revolvers. But I do know this is the model designed and made to repalce the vernable and iconic 1873 with a smaller, pistol caliber chambering as Ancestry Guns points out. Light weight and in production for 50 years. Certainly any questions you have I will seek out the answer for you. Highly motivated to sell, as I have a 1873 model in very good condition and a 1886 in the same condition on Guner International as well.
