Description:
BRASS BARREL Antique GILLET of BRISTOL .50 Percussion Conversion Pistol

NAPOLEONIC WARS ERA English Pistol

Here we present an antique Napoleonic Wars Era British Gillet Brass Barreled Percussion Conversion Pistol, made circa the early-1800s by Gillet of Bristol. The English Gunsmith’s John & James Gillet are recorded as working between 1813 & 1822 at 24 Clare Street Bristol, Gloucestershire. Bristol itself is a city in the southwest part of England with a long-important harbor and maritime history.

The Second British Empire was the empire fighting against Napoleon Bonaparte of France and the dominant power in much of continental Europe at the beginning of the 19th century when this pistol was made. A series of wars, known collectively as the Napoleonic Wars, extended French influence to much of Western Europe and into Poland. At its height in 1812, the French Empire had 130 departments, ruled over 70 million subjects, maintained an extensive military presence in Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Duchy of Warsaw, and counted Prussia and Austria as nominal allies.

The top of the barrel is marked “BRISTOL” and the lock is marked “GILLET”.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. Partially missing nipple. The hammer bears much use. Good bore for its age. Sharp markings. The stock is in very good shape with less than average wear. Nicely engraved. This example has been lightly refinished.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .50 Percussion Conversion
