Description:
Here we have an excellent example of an semi-auto Eagle Gun Co. Semi-Auto Mark II Carbine. The Eagle Gun Company from Stratford, CT was one of the first to the open-bolt / semi-auto market introducing their Mark I Carbine model in the mid 1960’s. The Eagle Gun Company was only in business for a short time between 1964 and 1968 before it burned down and the company dissolved.  Bill Ordner of the Eagle Gun Company designed the Thompson-like (appearance only) Mark 1 and Mark 2 Carbines by patterning the action after the WW2 era M3 "Grease Gun" which used a simple tube receiver and open-bolt action.  He designed this gun to fire from an open bolt as well, but only in semi-automatic operation instead of full-auto.  He designed it to use 30-round M3 Grease Gun magazines which were plentiful in surplus sales, as well as incorporating original U.S. Military surplus Thompson SMG buttstocks to make the gun look more Thompson-like.  While the open-bolt semi-automatic design has since been banned from being manufactured due to the ease at which they can be converted to full-auto, these original Eagle Gun Company guns were grandfathered-in due to the early production date, the extremely low numbers manufactured, and the design of the gun which was not nearly as easy to convert as some of the other open-bolt semi-auto's being built around this time by other companies.
This is the particularly rare Eagle Gun Co. "Mark II Carbine" model, which was designed with the idea in mind of adding a 9mm conversion kit to the gun in the near future.  The barrel was held in-place with a knurled & threaded ring that could be removed by-hand and without tools so that the planned 9mm barrel and bolt assembly could be swapped in easily. We are not sure what the magazine adapter would have looked like, but it would probably have allowed the use of 9mm Sten magazines.  The receiver is even marked .45 ACP / 9mm.  Due to the manufacturing plant fire, which destroyed the building and caused the company to go out of business, no 9mm conversion kits were ever made for it as far as we can find. Based roughly on the British-designed Sten SMG of WW2, but made to look more like a U.S. Military-issue Thompson SMG, the Mark II Carbine is definitely a very unique design.  This open-bolt / semi-auto carbine features a factory gloss or matte blue finish on most of the metal parts, a steel tube-shaped receiver, a cast metal lower receiver and trigger housing assembly, a heavy cylinder-shaped bolt with a fixed firing pin, a cast metal forearm with a finned shroud over the barrel and with an integral vertical pistol grip, a real factory-original WW2 Thompson M1A1 SMG buttstock with the original sling swivel and recoil lug, a magazine housing that accepts 30-round U.S. Model M3 "Grease Gun" .45 ACP double-stack magazines, and some very rudimentary but usable iron sights that consist of a peep sight at the rear and a front sight post with protective ears mounted on a barrel band, which is held in place with a set screw.  Firing from an open bolt, the user cocks the bolt back with their finger.  There is no handle on the bolt, big there is a big shoulder that is exposed that allows for easy manipulation with your fingers. Chambered in .45 ACP, this Mark II has a lot of firepower on-hand with the 30-round U.S.G.I. M3 magazine in-place.  This particular example has some very minor wear and handling/storage marks that are visible under close inspection, but is in very good overall condition.  The mechanics in this carbine are in perfect condition, showing no visible mechanical wear on any of the internal parts.  It is obvious that this thing has been fired VERY, VERY little. The stock has a few pressure marks but is completely free of chips, cracks, repairs, or major damage of any kind.  All of the parts on this gun are tight and in perfect working order. The 16" inch barrel has a perfect bright bore with strong rifling throughout and has no visible defects, erosion, or pitting.  This rare and very cool carbine comes with 5 total USGI M3 30-round magazines.  If you are a collector of very uniquely-designed and rare guns, this Eagle Gun Co. Mark II .45 ACP carbine would be a excellent addition to your collection.  Originally a inexpensive gun in the mid to late 1960's, this Eagle Mark II Carbine has proven to be a superb long-term investment, and should continue to be for the foreseeable future!  This cool and very rare gun is C&R eligible!
