Payment Types Accepted: Money Order, Check, Credit Card (3% fee) Description: For Sale is a very nice 1908 SHT (Short Magazine) Lee-Enfield No.1 Mark III made by London Small Arms Co. Like most British military rifles, this rifle is covered with proofs and markings telling the story of where it has been over the last 100+ years, many of which I am unfamiliar with, but I will do my best to describe it. The left side of the buttsocket is marked (Crown), E.R., L.S.A. Co. L, 1908, SHT L.E., III. The crown and the E.R. are a tribute to King Edward VII, ruler of the UK and British Dominions (also Emperor of India) when this Short Magazine Lee Enfield Mark III was made in 1908 by the London Small Arms Company Ltd. The left side of the buttsocket is marked FTR 1931, denoting the rifle went through some form of Factory Thorough Repair that year, quite possibly after having served in WWI. The receiver, rear sight, and bayonet lug all have matching L7690 serial numbers, however the rear of the bolt handle is not matching, likely having been replaced during repair, with a 13318K serial number. The rifle is in overall good condition, with handling marks and wear consistent with its age. The 25" barrel has a very nice bore with strong rifling. The English walnut stock and forend present nicely, showing the expected light dings and mild abrasions from the rifle's many years of service. All of the original proofs and markings remain strong and clear. All of the hardware (i.e. sights, bolt assembly, magazine cutoff, sling swivels, bayonet lug, trigger/trigger guard, screw heads, etc.) is in good-very good condition showing minimal wear. Everything functions as it should. The 17" single edge blade bayonet is also in good-very good condition. It sides on and off with minimal effort and locks in nicely. It is marked "1907" on the blade, along with several other proof marks, and "CH 345" on the handle, but matches the rifle very nicely. The sheath show a little wear, but is in great shape considering its age. Overall, this Enfield variant is a wonderful piece of British military history that would make a fine addition to any collection. It comes from a large estate of British military rifles, many of which will be listed in the very near future. Feel free to call or text with any questions or for more pictures.
