This is a Nagoya-marked rifle that has a mismatched bolt ("058"), and retains 85-90% of the original blue finish, with a mild plum-brown patina starting to form on the balance. Some silvering is present on the edges and bearing surfaces as well. The Mum is intact, and all other markings are crisp and clear. The rifle is still equipped with the anti-aircraft wings and folding monopod. The stock has numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered throughout the original varnish, and a well worn, but still serviceable original rubberized cloth sling is installed. The right side of the buttstock has a Japanese issue mark in white paint, as well as a name stamped in English, "LOVEJOY" (an old inventory tag on the sling swivel states that the rifle was captured on Okinawa by Capt. William Lovejoy, 2nd Marines). Additionally, a brown resin muzzle-cover is also included. This is a fine example of a battle-captured Type 99 overall, and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
