Description:
This 1977-78 lever action rifle is a Winchester 9422M XTR chambered in .22 Win Magnum. It has a hooded serrated ramp blade fixed front sight, a butterfly U-notch adjustable rear sight, an 11-round tubular magazine, a curved serrated trigger, an original Winchester black hard plastic butt plate, a round smooth banded fore arm, and a 20-inch round barrel. The bluing is in excellent condition with only a very light scratch observable to the left side of the receiver. Likewise, the highly finished glossy wood stock is also in excellent condition, and showing with what appears to be a factory blem imperfection to the underside of the butt stock. When Winchester first introduced the 9422, it was as a single version we've come to call the Standard, in two chamberings (LR & WMR). The Standard had Winchester's standard satin blue, with a plain, uncheckered Walnut stock. The next model introduced was the "XTR" - which means "eXTRa finished". These versions also included a better grade walnut. This rifle is the "eXTRa finished" model. The first XTR's were also uncheckered (as this one is), but had a higher-polish blue, and a nicer stock finish. Some people have commented that the earlier 9422's, such as this one, were put together with a lot more care and precision as compared to some later models. .22 WMR
