This is a Colt Model 1903 pocket hammerless Type IV pistol manufactured in 1934. The pistol came to us in a named Bath Iron Works fitted holster marked "Sgt. L.L. Groves / BIW Police / BATH Maine" and was likely belonged to the police force assigned to protect the historic significant Maine Naval military shipyard. The pistol retains about 87-90% of the original blue finish on the frame and slide with areas of finish loss near the muzzle, silvering along the high edges and some scattered freckles on the frame. The silver medallion rampant Colt grips rate about excellent with some wear and flattening of the high points of the checkering. It comes with one unmarked blued steel magazine and the named leather snap holster. A very nice 1903 pistol with some ties to Maine maritime history that may be worthy of further research.
