Description:
RARE .25-35 CALIBER SAVAGE MODEL 1899A, #69XXX, MADE 1907. Standard caliber for these early 1899s was .303 Savage with the Winchester calibers also offered. Of these, the .30-30 is most often encountered. The .25-35, .32-40 and .38-55 are seldom seen. This one shows thin blue on the 26" barrel with good markings and a buckhorn rear sight with Rocky Mountain blade/bead front sight. The receiver is mostly gray/brown. The butt stock appears to be a little fancier than standard walnut with a steel savage marked shotgun butt plate. The stock does not appear to be cracked and shows normal handling with a couple of very small and hard to see filled sling swivel holes. The forend also has a couple of filled sling swivel holes equally as small. There is a wood chip at the schnable tip that has been glued back with the original wood. Tight action with the brass rotary magazine a bit stiff and probably needs to be lubricated. There are two tiny holes drilled in the left side of the receiver with filler screws installed. All this sounds a lot worse than it is and a little T.L.C. would go a long way with this one. Bore is a bit dark with fine rifling all the way through.
