Description:
This is a super rare and early Springfield Armory Model 1911 from 1914. This pistol, as documented in Meadows' book, was one of 50 shipped to the Ordnance Office for safety testing. It's a very nice example of a military-issued Springfield with around 85-90% of the original blue remaining. Minor thinning along the top and edges of the slide, and a little more on the mainspring housing. More notable finish loss on the grip safety. Most of the various component parts carry the small Springfield "s". The "s" marked parts include the slide stop, safety catch, mainspring housing, grip safety, sear, firing pin retainer, extractor, and barrel bushing. The barrel is Springfield "s" marked on the left lug and "M" marked on the rear of the hood. The hammer has no "s" marking but is clearly correct with the unique Springfield style checkering, long style, with sharp rear edge. The disconnector, magazine catch, and trigger are also unmarked. The grips are of Springfield manufacture with 10/11 lines of checkering between the two large diamonds. Bore shows minor use and frost but is in generally good condition. It comes with the correct Springfield lanyard loop magazine with folded base. This pistol belongs to the first serial block of Springfield pistols and was made in the first year of production, and is documented by serial in Scott Meadows' book on U.S. Military Automatic Pistols.
