Description:
This historic little lad comes to Cabela's Columbus from a private collector, and without further ado, for your viewing pleasure here we have a 1870s era Smoot New Model No. 3 nickel plated revolver, manufactured approximately late 1870 to early 1880s. The top of the 3 3/4" octagonal barrel is stamped with "E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, NY, Pat W.S. Smoot Oct, 21, 1873", (picture 4) and features the saw handle type grip with decorative checkered hard black grips sporting an 'R" for Remington, and a 5 shot cylinder which is chambered, based on my research .38 Caliber, (not stamped on barrel). The original nickel finish is very fine retaining much of its plating with just some minor spots of surface rust. The bore is quite a different story having some significant rust and pitting from what I can see, but I couldn't figure out how to take the cylinder out to fully inspect it, and being such an old firearm I just let it be. It almost seems as though this little guy has some secrets he would rather not reveal. Approximately 6,000 Saw-handle models were produced, with approximately 25,000 various models overall manufactured. Overall, a very collectable antique, that would make a fantastic addition to any collection, or a splendid mantle, desk or man cave decor, and available here at Cabela's here in the heart of buckeye country.
