The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle #75,2xx with a 30-inch round #3 barrel in .30 Gov't caliber, plain trigger, fancy pistol-grip stock, and forearm 16-1/2" in length with double checkering and two studs brazed to barrel. Sights to be supplied by customer. Received in warehouse July 17, 1896. Shipped from warehouse July 18, 1896, order #13906. This rifle has had its buttstock and crescent buttplate covered in an old rawhide or leather stitched wrap that is quite possibly as old as the gun itself. The barrel retains a large percentage of its original bluing (possibly 75-80%), bore condition shows shallow rifling but remains bright and shiny. The action and lever have turned to a dull gray patina with traces of case color in hidden areas. There is some light freckling of rust and tarnish in a few areas but nothing visually distracting from this lovely old timepiece. The forend is simply fantastic with its double checkering pattern and special ordered length, and the buttstock remains a mystery as we have not tried to remove the old leather wrap. 30 Govt SOLD Metal Condition: Light freckling with the barrel retaining approximately 75% to 80% of the original bluing and the action and lever have turned to a dull gray patina with traces of case color in hidden areas Wood Condition: The fore end and visible portion of the stock are in quite good condition for the age of the rifle with a number of small to medium-sized dents and scrapes Bore Condition: Bright with shallow rifling Barrels: 30 Stock Dimensions: 13 1/4" LOP Fore End: 16 1/2" double checkered Butt Pad: Sewn-on leather pad Weight: 9 lbs. 6 oz.
