Description:
SMITH & WESSON .32-20 “Hand Ejector” Model 1905 SELF DEFENSE Revolver C&R

VERY NICE Fourth Change CONCEAL & CARRY Revolver

Here we present a C&R Smith & Wesson .32-20 WCF Hand Ejector Model 1905 Fourth Change Revolver manufactured circa the Roaring Twenties with a production run between 1915 and 1940 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The serial number range of these ran from 67,701 to 144,684 before production was stopped in 1940.

The “Hand Ejector” models were the first time S&W made a revolver with a swing-out cylinder. Interestingly, there is no cylinder latch, but the action opens by pulling forward on the exposed portion of the cylinder pin. This frees the spring tension and allows the cylinder to swing free. Another novel feature of this model is the cylinder stop location, which is located in the top of the frame over the cylinder. This revolver is chambered for .32-20 Winchester Centerfire cartridges, has a 6-shot fluted cylinder and was offered with 3.25", 4.25", 5”, and 6" long barrels. Available with a round or square butt, it also came with checkered hard rubber grips and was either blued or nickel-plated. Factory installed target sights were available by special order.

Determining this exact date of production on these revolvers is a bit sketchy. They seem to have produced a large number in the late 1920s and then stored them instead of shipping them. It is also known that Smith & Wesson didn’t ship in serial number sequence.

The overall condition is fine. Excellent action. original finish has been preserved. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. Markings are legible. Numbers match. Both grips contain an average amount of handling wear, but remain in good shape overall.
