Description:
For your consideration, a Smith & Wesson .38/44 Outdoorsman chambered in .38 Special. The Outdoorsman and its fixed sight counterpart, the Heavy Duty, were chambered in the so-called .38/44 cartridge. This was essentially the .38 Special loaded to higher pressures than the common K-frame could handle, but sub-.357 Magnum pressure levels. Just as in .357 Magnum revolvers, .38/44 chambered guns can safely load and fire conventional .38 Special ammunition. Markings consist of "Smith & Wesson" and a small S&W Trademark logo at left, ".38 S&W Special CTG" and "MADE IN U.S.A." at right, and patent markings on top of barrel and hammer. Dating to 1937, this piece is built on a 5-screw, square butt N-frame. The original grips were replaced with a nice set of Magna-type factory grips at some point in its history. .38 Special
