German Export to the US during the Roaring Twenties
Here we present a C&R Weimar Era DWM Luger Pistol, made circa 1920 by DWM in Berlin, Germany. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars.
This pistol is marked “GERMANY” on the left side and bears commercial proof marks. This is indicative of this pistol having been made for the commercial export market, primarily to the United States, during the post-Great War period. These were very well-made guns that were chambered for the “.30 Luger” cartridge (7.65x21mm Parabellum) that fired a 93 grain bullet at about 1200 fps. This one is marked “DWM” on the toggle.
The overall condition is good. Original finish and patina with some storage wear around the high points of the exterior, likely from being stored in a holster. The action is excellent. The bore shows much wear with some thin rifling. The grips are solid, though a little shy and with some attempted recheckering on the left panel. The numbers match throughout. Clearly a well-used Luger pistol.
