Description:
The Barrett M82 must have been a shock to the gun buyer market when it was first introduced in the early 1980s. Prior to its arrival, the .50 BMG round was only utilized in the Browning M2 heavy machine gun and its variations, and as such, was not a cartridge that usually popped into people’s minds when thinking of a “standard rifle cartridge”. Since hitting the market, the M82 has become a fairly popular seller and has appeared in numerous films and video games. Its most famous (and also first) appearance in film is perhaps its most famous as well, when it appeared as the “Cobra Assault Cannon” in the original “RoboCop” (1987). In that film, it was fitted a very large scope and fired fictional high explosive incendiary rounds. Surprisingly, the M82 was not actually adopted for military use until the Gulf War when the Marine Corps purchased some. Since then, the M82 and its younger variant, the M107, have seen increasing use by a multitude of military organizations throughout the world. A few changes were made to the basic design of the M82 in order to create the M107. These included a lengthened accessory rail, different rear grip, and a monopod socket. The 27 MOA accessory rail is 23 inches in length. The rear hand module is mounted via an M1913 picatinny rail allowing for the attachment of a monopod as shown in the photos. As this rifle is an M107A1-S model (note the “-S”), the rifle uses a steel receiver (rather than aluminum) for enhanced strength and durability. The bolt carrier assembly is coated with Nickel Teflon to reduce carbon fouling and maintenance when shooting the rifle with a suppressor mounted. The cylindrical muzzle brake fitted to the rifle is designed to accept the Barrett QDL suppressor. The bore and chamber are fully chrome-lined to prolong the life of the barrel and protect it from rust. The outside surfaces of the rifle also have anti-corrosive coatings. The bipod and monopod are made of Titanium for light weight and strength. The maximum effective range of the M107 is 2000 yards. Please keep in mind that a .50-caliber projectile can travel much further than this. A shooter must exercise caution and always be aware of what is beyond the target, prior to taking a shot. This new-in-box rifle comes in a very nice and very durable Pelican IM3300 hardcase.
