Description:
1915 ARTILLERY LUGER DWM Model 1914 Pistol Stock & Holster Rig WORLD WAR I

Scarce 8-Inch Barreled Pistol w Detachable Shoulder Stock!

Here we present a World War I Model 1914 Artillery Luger Pistol, made in 1915 by DWM in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. The top of the chamber is Great War dated “1915”. The top of the toggle is marked “DWM”. The right side of the frame bears German military acceptance marks.

The adoption of the Lange Pistole, aka the “Artillery Luger”, was authorized by the Kaiser on July 2, 1913. This P08 variation was equipped with a 200 mm (7.9 in) barrel, an 8-position tangent rear sight (calibrated to 800 meters (870 yd)) and a board-type shoulder stock with an attached leather holster. In the event of close combat, the pistol was intended to be used as a carbine with the shoulder stock attached to a lug mounted on the heel of the pistol frame. When set for long range use the rear sight element visibly moves to the left to compensate for spin drift. This pistol was intended for use by German artillery units who could not be encumbered by the long and heavy K.98 rifle.

The overall condition is fine. The action is strong and tight. The bore is mirror bright. All numbers match. Both grips have retained sharp checkering. This example showcases a fine adjustment front sight blade and tangent rear sight. The shoulder stock, artillery pattern holster, takedown tool, and bore rod are all in very nice shape. The stock is the correct model but the attaching iron is numbered to a different pistol in this series. This is a wonderful set that is in fine condition and not often seen!
