The blade has some of the original armory bright polish remaining, with dark areas of freckling and light surface pitting on either side. The ricasso is marked "US/5894" on the obverse, "SA / (flaming bomb) / 1908" on the reverse. The S-curved crossguard has a mild patina with a series of minor handling marks, surface blemishes. The RIA-made, 1910 dated leather scabbard is in good-very good shape with 50-60% of the original blue remaining on the belt swivel, and a very good brown leather body that has light flaking and scuffing, especially along the inside seam on the reverse. The leather has a stamped unit marking on the reverse: "7TH. N.Y. NO. 2"; and a hand scratched marking on the obverse: "H.C. 2 / 7.N.G. N.Y. / W.R.C." This is a a very nice, unit marked example of a great pre-WW1 US military knife, and would make a fine addition to any collection.; SOLD |
