Synopsis: Super Scarce FN 49 Luxembourg Sniper Rifle, made in 1953, 1 of 203 sniper rifles serialled 7001-7203 with 1st pattern Belgian Army scope, cover, and a transit case. Description: This is a near excellent example of a post war FN Model 49 semi-automatic sniper rifle as produced by FN in Herstal, Belgium for the Luxembourg military, complete with an original Belgian Army ABL scope/leather cover and a transit case. These rifles are discussed on pages 228-246 in the book 'The FN-49, The Last Elegant Old-World Military Rifle' by Wayne Johnson. Documented Luxembourg sniper rifles all fall into the serial number range of 7001 to 7203, the example pictured in Johnson's book numbered 7177. As true for all of these rifles, it has the top/saddle ambidextrous-type cheek piece, no muzzle brake, and no middle sling swivel. Chamber marked 'AL.' Matching numbers on all the usual rifle components with scope base numbered 58. Fitted with a Belgian Army ABL marked Type 3 scope, numbered 1047 (observed range of 808-1856), this scope dated 1951 (earliest recorded date). Scope has sunshade and correct leather Belgian Army lens cover. Complete with a leather bodied, buckle top, scope carrier.
