Such is the case with the HUNAN assembled C96 copies. All identified guns of Mauser Bolo pattern, seemingly sequentially numbered starting at 50,000. This example has a series of interesting identifiers on the right side of the frame. Mechanically the pistol is virtually identical to a post war Mauser Bolo in having a 4 inch barrel, slip-in rear sight graduated 50-1000, short extractor, and two lug firing pin. The chamber markings are “MADE IN LKLEA”. Full serial number on the left chamber flat and repeated on the frame. This pistol is clearly a rebuild as different serial numbers are on the bolt stop, bolt, hammer, and subframe. Limited disassembly, shows an unmarked follower, broken follower spring and floorplate number "71". This EXACT pistol pictured in “Pistols of the Warlords” text by Ian McCollum on pages 248-249. Synopsis: Hunan Chinese Arsenal, C96 Bolo Copy, Documented, 7.63mm, 50471, PCA-164 Condition: Typical Chinese Warlord period condition that has been used hard and put away wet. Now largely a blue/brown/gray gun. Firing pin head sits below surface of bolt. Dull bore with easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics. An extremely interesting C96, likely produced in small quantity by an arsenal in Hunan, remaining references still to be identified. NOT TO BE FIRED!! NOT TO BE FIRED!!
