Description: This cased Hollis & Sheath revolver from London is from the Civil War era and maybe even the Crimean War. The top of the back strap shows the partial maker's name with the "Hollis" mostly rubbed off probably from holster wear? The barrel top is engraved "MAKERS TO H.M.H. BOARD OF ORDANANCE LONDON". The trigger is marked "TRANTER'S / No 1115 / PATENT". The cylinder and barrel are marked with London proofmarks. The revolver is a 5 shot .38 caliber or a 54 bore in British terms. The revolver is 10 1/2" overall with a 4 1/2" barrel. The revolver metal still exhibits a fair amount of faded blue in areas as well as some small rust spots. In addition there is some engraving in places. The Tranter action works as it should -- the spur trigger when squeezed raises the hammer and rotates the cylinder then the upper trigger when squeezed causing the hammer to fall. The grips are in excellent condition. The bore while clean displays little or no rifling. The low serial number would indicate this is an earlier model and it is obvious it saw action somewhere. The case inclues a powder flask and an empty Eley caps tin. Cased revolvers are big bucks but this one is affordable and displays great. Layaway an option. SOLD Antique: Yes |
