ENGRAVED, IVORIES, LETTERED Antique COLT NEW LINE .22 Rimfire POCKET Revolver

HARTLEY & GRAHAM Shipped and ENGRAVED!

Here we present an antique Colt New Line .22 Revolver First Model, made in 1877 in Hartford, Connecticut. The factory letter states that this revolver was part of a 100 piece shipment sent to Hartley & Graham of New York City in 1874. Schuyler, Hartley & Graham was the largest firearm dealer in the United States in 1860. Jacob Rutsen Schuyler (1816-1887), Marcellus Hartley (1828-1902) and Malcolm Graham (1832-1899) incorporated their company on March 1, 1854. In 1876 Schuyler retired from the company and by 1880 they changed the name to Hartley & Graham. The firm was well-known to buy firearms and use the likes of Louis Nimschke among others to engrave them in order to enhance value and desirability.

The New Line was a single action pocket revolver introduced by the Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1873 and continued through 1877. Two years after the Colt House Revolver, a year after the Colt Open Top, and almost simultaneously alongside the Colt Peacemaker, the Colt New Line was one of the first metallic cartridge, rear-loading revolvers manufactured by Colt. It was designed to be a handy pocket-carry revolver, chambered in .22 rimfire, which was very popular for self-defense in these days. The revolver features 7 shots of .22 rimfire. Of all the Colt “New Line” revolvers made, the .22 caliber was the only one featuring a 7 shot cylinder. All other calibers utilized a 5-shot cylinder. Patent dates are on the bottom of the barrel.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore has dimmed but is in good shape. Both ivory grips are firmly seated and contain less than expected handling wear. Both sides of the frame and barrel are nicely decorated with floral engravings and hand punched dot patterns. A great little Colt that will make a jewel in your collection.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 2-1/4 inches.

Caliber: .22 Rimfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
