Here we present a rare Walther Deutsches Sportmodell .22 training rifle made for and used by the SS in Germany. A small bore single-shot rifle patterned directly after the Model 98, the DSM was widely embraced in Germany as a paramilitary training rifle, including by such Nazi Party organizations as the German Youth and the SS; using inexpensive ammunition on smaller firing ranges, a beginner could refine the core skills of the marksman without breaking the budget. Blade and tangent sights with caliber marking on the barrel, "crown/letter" proofs, Walther address on the left side of the receiver, "Deutsches Sportmodell" on the right, and "WALTHER/THURINGEN" on top of the chamber. This particular example is in very good condition overall and everything funtions as it should with a buttery smooth action. The gun shows some high edge wear and the metal has taken on a handsome warmish grey patina over time. The wood shows some pressure marks and a few impressions. The rear sight is adjustable. This would make an excellent benchrest shooter or a great addition to a collection of military firearms.
