Description:
For consideration is a very clean Ruger Red Label over/under shotgun in 20 gauge. In the early 1970s, Bill Ruger, co-founder of Sturm, Ruger, and Company, recognized a hole in the over/under shotgun market. At the time, most fine double-barrel shotguns were being imported to the U.S. from Europe (as they had for decades). They were expensive and often unobtainable for working-class hunters. Keen on filling that void, Ruger went to work designing and engineering a functional, less expensive American-made over/under—the Ruger Red Label. By 1977, the first Red Labels hit gun store shelves. The Red Label enjoyed a production run of more than 30 years. However, the Ruger Red Label continues to be a favorite of serious upland hunters across the country as well as a collector’s item for shotgun aficionados. Ruger’s Red Label is a break-action, double-barrel, over/under shotgun. A top lever on the tang behind the action unlatches the breech and allows it to be opened. As the action opens, a pair of ejectors activate if the gun has been fired. If only one cartridge has been fired, only the applicable barrel’s ejector is activated, leaving the remaining fresh shotshell in its chamber. This particular example was made in 1979 and is in very good overall condition. Everything works correctly and the action breaks open very smoothly and locks up very tightly. The 26" barrel has a very good bore, vent rib and a bead front sight. Being an early gun it has fixed chokes....IC and Mod. The rib has a few spots of what looks like old lubricant. The stock and forend are in very good condition with very few and faint handling marks....many brand new guns come out of the box with more marks than this fine Ruger has. The forend, grip cap and red butt pad have the Ruger Phoenix logo. The metal components are in very good condition with very few handling marks. The fine Ruger would make an outstanding upland bird gun and a wise investment.
