Description: Serial #100784, .38 WCF (.38-40), 24 inch half octagon / half round barrel with a near excellent bore with very slight frosting and strong rifling. This is the model 1892 rifle manufactured by Winchester in 1898. In excellent condition the barrel and magazine tube retain 70-75% original blue that tones to plum brown with silvering on the high edges along with scattered freckling and some areas of roughness. The frame shows about the same amount of original bright blue, worn to silver on the high edges and carry points with areas of mottled plum-brown and the lever and hammer show trace amounts of original case-hardened color in the most protected areas. The walnut stock and forearm are solid with scattered old scratches and contusions. It is sighted with a buckhorn rear and silver blade front sights. Mechanically it functions properly with a tight lock up. Included is a letter from the Cody Firearms Records Office stating the gun had the serial number applied on 9/1/1898 and was shipped on 9/9/1898. A very nice antique 1892 in a great caliber with a custom order barrel. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
