Description:
1873 .44-40 SADDLE RING CARBINE, #183XXX, SHIPPED FROM WINCHESTER MAY 18, 1886. This one has a Call-in sheet from the Cody Museum that simply lists it as a Carbine with the above shipping date. A nice example that still shows good very aged blue on the receiver sides mixing heavily with brown and some gray. Fine blue on the loading gate. Original dust cover, fine screw heads, exc. tang and barrel markings with original carbine ladder rear sight with slide intact and carbine front sight. Stock and forend are fine with some usual handling marks and a couple of dings. Good wood to metal fit. Gray/brown barrel and magazine. Saddle ring and staple intact. Tight actiion with mellow brass lifter stamped 44 CAL. Half cock holds securely and the bore is surprisingly fine+ to excellent, only a little dark with fine rifling all the way through and any roughness extremely minor and surface. Overall, a good carbine that appears to have never been cleaned or messed with.
