Description:
GERMANIC Antique JAEGER Musket CARVED STOCK Smoothbore Maker Marked .63 Cal

Gorgeous Old-World Craftsmanship!

Here we present an antique Germanic Jaeger Smoothbore Musket, made circa the mid-19th century. This musket would have been carried in a military or police fashion, perhaps by militia or local regent’s bodyguard. There are maker’s marks along the breech end of the barrel with the figure on the left holding a spear. The middle mark bears a crown and reads something like “IN/ROOS/BACH”. This musket features a .63 caliber smooth bore barrel with a bead type front sight and no provision for a rear sight. Full-length stock. This musket was wrought in the Germanic fashion and features a part-octagonal, part-round barrel with a decorative transition at the midpoint. The butt stock is blocky and has a generous cheek rest. There is not a buttplate but instead a more decorative finial comes from both top and bottom to accentuate and probably secure the corners. The lower finial was lost long ago and the spot filled. The trigger guard is made of carved wood as well. Brass furniture. Single trigger. Elegantly carved throughout. Equipped with sling swivels.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and in good condition. A wonderful piece of Germanic history!
