“H R” Signed Barrel; FAHNESTOCK Lock
Here we present an antique “HR” Signed Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. This half-stock rifle’s lock is by FAHNESTOCK. Its octagonal barrel is in .34 caliber. Stock is beautifully striped maple. The left butt stock has an oval of German silver with a bounding mountain stag. Large patchbox. Double set trigger.
The overall condition is very good. Original patina. The action is strong; the set trigger must be activated in order for the hammer to cock. The bore is dim and patinated with good rifling. The stock has fantastic striped grain and remains solid. A gorgeous work of American craftsmanship.
