H. ASTON U.S. MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION .54 CAL. SINGLE SHOT CAVALRY PISTOL DATED 1851. The standard issue pistol used before and during the Mexican War and still in use particularly in the South during the early years of the Civil War. 15” o/a with 8 ½” smoothbore barrel with “WN” Ordnance inspector’s initial stamp at left breech. All original with lock stamped “U.S./H. ASTON & CO.” and “MIDDTN/CONN./1851”. Complete with the stirrup steel ramrod original Very good with metal a light grey patina with very light salt and pepper. Stock with visible “WAT” cartouche. Old very fine hairline crack just above the butt cap but wood much above average for one of these. Lock in working order. Nipple with wear and moderate corrosion. Fair to good bore. Reasonably priced.
