Description:
WINCHESTER M64 LEVER ACTION .30 WCF C&R Hunting/Sporting “STANDARD” Rifle

PRE-WORLD WAR II Winchester with < 67,000 Produced

Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 64 Lever Action Rifle manufactured in New Haven, Connecticut in 1936. Production began in late 1932, and in 1933, Winchester introduced the Model 64 lever-action rifle as an evolved version of the 53 and 55 Winchester rifles. The Model 64 was available in .30 WCF (30-30), .32 WS, .25-35, and .219 Zipper (1938-1941) calibers.  This rifle could be ordered with a round 24 or 20-inch barrel, the wood walnut, plain or checkered, with a pistol-grip stock and shotgun buttplate.  The frame and barrel were blued and had a solid feature with a forged front sight. There were two variants offered, which were the Standard Rifle and the Deer Rifle. Many collectors refer to the Deer Rifle as a “Deluxe” due to its checkered stock. Production of the Model 64 ended in late 1957, with an estimated 66,783 manufactured.
Somewhere around 1946, Winchester, at the other gunmakers persistence, bowed to them and renamed the cartridge to .30-30, rather than the .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire), obviously because the other makers didn’t like the Winchester name in the cartridge their rifles were firing, along with Winchester worrying they would miss out due to everyone else calling it a .30-30.

The overall condition is good. Strong, crisp action. The bore is in very good shape and remains bright with nice rifling. Solid stock overall, has been lightly refinished. Markings are legible. The finish has matured to a wonderful dark brown patina. The left side of the receiver has been drilled and tapped, but the holes currently host filler screws. Both the barrel and magazine have been shortened.
