Payment Types Accepted: Check or Money Orders Description: U.S. Model 1822/28 (1816 Type III) Flintlock Musket by Springfield with Bayonet Mexican American War .69 caliber. 42" round barrel. SN: NSN. Arsenal bright finish, iron furniture, American black walnut stock. Single shot muzzleloading flintlock smoothbore military musket with three flat, spring retained barrel bands, with no rear sight and brass blade front sight. Lock marked in three vertical lines at the tail: SPRING/FIELD/1833 and with a {Spread-Winged Eagle}/US forward of the cock. Lock remains in original flint configuration with an inspected removable brass pan, and with most internal parts with sub-inspection marks and single punch dot mating marks. Breech marked with P/{Eagle Head}/V inspections and an 11. Breech plug tang dated 1833, matching the lock. Counterpane with two soft, mostly illegible cartouches and a weak final inspection cartouche is present behind the triggerguard in the toe line of the stock. Musket retains both sling swivels and a correct pattern, full-length button head ramrod with threads at the end. Includes a correct pattern US Model 1816/22/27 socket bayonet marked US/TA at the ricasso that fits the musket. Condition Report VERY GOOD. Smooth bore good, moderately oxidized and dark with some scattered pitting. Metal with a moderate amount of scattered surface oxidation and discoloration, some areas of surface roughness and some scattered pitting. Upper band with some light surface rust and some small patches of light surface rust are present here and there. Markings in metal remain clear, those in wood show moderate wear and are weaker. Lock mechanically functional. Stock solid and full-length with numerous scattered bumps, dings, mars and scuffs.
