UNUSUAL AND EXTREMELY RARE 1873 SPECIAL ORDER .38-40 22" SHORT RIFLE, SHOTGUN BUTT, SPECIAL SIGHT, LETTER, #416XXX, SHIPPED 1892. All 1873 short rifles are scarce, but almost all I've seen have been 20." The factory info on this one states it has a 22" round barrel, Winchester Express Sight and Shotgun Butt. Interestingly, it is British Proofed which only adds to the intrigue and history of this one- might have gone to India or Australia or simply stayed in England/Scotland. Nice uncleaned and unmessed with condition with aged blue/brown receiver with good blue in the protected areas and loading gate, fine screw heads, original dust cover, mellow brass lifter, fine aged/dulled barrel and mag blue, correct 1" shorter than standard forend, generally fine+ stock and forend showing only normal light handling and tight wood to metal fit, smooth steel shotgun butt plate, original (mentioned in letteer!) three leaf express sight with all leaves intact and small blade with ivory bead front sight. Fine+ bore with good rifling all the way through and only a little dark with any roughness very surface and minor. Really nice appearance and super rare.
