Description:
The P30 is a modern self-defense pistol that semi-replaces older H&K pistols such as the USP. It has many features that make it an excellent competitor to more modern striker fired handguns, while retaining the classic hammer-fired method of operation. Ergonomic features include a grip frame with interchangeable backstraps and lateral side plates allowing the P30 to be adapted to any hand size. Unlike previous H&K pistols such as the USP, the P30 utilizes a modern picatinny rail on the frame for mounting lights and accessories, providing the buyer with a wider range of options than before. The P30 also features an ambidextrous slide stop which also functions as the takedown lever. Like the H&K P7 of 1979, the P30 features polygonal rifling in the bore for the same reasons that Glock Gens 1 thru 4 pistols do – the polygonal bore effectively seals propellant gases behind the bullet, increasing bullet velocity. A polygonal barrel can also outlast a conventionally rifled barrel by thousands of rounds. One other nice feature of the P30 is that the extractor doubles as a loaded chamber indicator. This is useful for safety reasons. The P30 shown in the pictures is the P30L model, a longer-barreled version intended to bring all of the capabilities of the standard P30 in a slightly longer package, with the higher muzzle velocity and energy that comes with a longer barrel, with only a slight increase in weight. The longer sight radius results in better accuracy. Like the full size HK45 V7, the P30L V1 has no manual safety and uses H&K’s patented Law Enforcement Modification (LEM) trigger system. The “V” in “V7” or “V1” represents the term “Version” while the number is self-explanatory. The LEM trigger operates similar to a Double-Action Only trigger system. However, there are slight differences. Under the LEM system, the hammer will always return to the DA position (i.e., forward) after each shot is fired. Pulling the trigger gives a feeling similar to pulling the trigger on a DA/SA pistol with the hammer already in the cocked position – there is a bit of take-up, and then the trigger hits the break point. However, unlike the DA/SA pistol, the hammer of the LEM system moves rearward as the trigger is pulled, just like a standard DAO pistol. The difference is simply in how easy it is to pull the trigger. As stated in the manual, the LEM system will ALWAYS be activated via the slide passing over the hammer. The only time that the P30L V1 will operate in the traditional DAO mode is when the slide does not recoil out of battery as a result of either a weak primer strike and/or a failure for the cartridge to ignite. The P30L V1 comes with no less than three 17-round magazines, the box, manual, and the alternate backstrap/lateral plates. It is equipped with tritium night sights. The P30 gained a great deal of fame when it appeared as the primary sidearm of Keanu Reeves in the film John Wick modified with a custom muzzle brake. There are many aftermarket accessories available for the P30 from HK Parts and others. These include extended magazines, longer barrels, frame-mounted weights, and trigger kits, among others.
