Description:
SOLD Massive Engraved (Etched) Bowie by W. Butcher Sheffield Marked, In the local directory of 1822 William was listed as a manufacturer of edge tools and as a steel converter refiner. In the early 1800's he sold many Bowie Knives with etchings during the 1850's -1860's. This bowie has a 12 inch by 3 inch blade that is an 1/4 inch thick. On one side of the blade it is deeply etched and with the  slogan I can dig gold from quartz in a ribbon middle of th blade, the other side appears to be litgtly etched but wore. It has a Indian brave  (waste up) with braded hair in the middle of the blade with the head of a horse (neck up} behind it. Can be seen best in photo 5. Keep in mind that this etching is very worn and I have only tried to discribe what I believe to see.it may have more etching but to worn to see. Note the blade has 4 nicks in it about 3 inches from the tip under the words I Can, see photo 8. The guard is made of steel with acorn design ends. Grip is of bone. with german silver pommel also has a silver shield on one side that a preivous owner scratched  W. K. into it. Blade has W. Butcher stamped in one line and under that Sheffield is stamped. The Bowie weighs 2 pounds. I accept PayPal or Cashier's check. Buyer pays Shipping. I will consider a reasonalbe offer.  I will give a 3 Day inspection if you are not completely happy buyer must contact me with in the 3 day inspection. Buyer to pay return shipping.
