For sale is a very rare and desirable Springfield M1C Garand sniper rifle. I am assuming this was a DCM rifle, as the original owner bought it some 35 years ago before the CMP existed. I do NOT have the DCM paperwork and have not done a serial search with the CMP. This is a REAL M1C rifle, not one of the thousands of fakes out there on the market, and NOT an SA-52 heel-marked original receiver that was plugged and put back into service as a regular rifle. The receiver (ser# 3691720) was manufactured in March 1945. The mount is serial numbered 3714186, and the base is not numbered. This is correct for an original, rebuilt M1C. You can reference this in Canfield's big Garand book, also. This appears to be an original Korean War built M1C that was rebuilt during the 1950s, and possibly again in the 1960s (going by the op rod, that could have been switched out without the rifle being rebuilt). All the characteristics fit. 1. 1951 dated barrel. 2. Griffin & Howe receiver bracket that is unnumbered. 3. Griffin & Howe WW2, blued scope mount with mismatched (to the receiver) serial number, stamped by Springfield Armory (the top of the 3 digit is rounded, not flat). 4. Receiver/Mount screws are staked, not the receiver. 5. Original blued Lyman Alaskan "All-Weather" B-prefix scope with crosshair reticle, serial number B4633. Included in the purchase will be the original verification letter from Dave McClain's M1C verification service. Dave is a top authority on the M1C and is mentioned in Canfield's big book in both the WW2 and Post-War sniper's rifle sections.
Here is an outlay of the parts:
Stock- Original WW2 SA/GAW with circled serifed P, and small Ordnance stamp on heel. It has two rack numbers. A yellow "64" on the butt end, and a white "74" on the heel. Excellent condition. Very good lockup.
Cheekpad- Original (see the triangle sewing pattern) MRT 1 52 dated (January 1952, same as the barrel). All 3 GRAY felt pads are intact and in great condition, as is the entire cheekpad.
Barrel- SA 1-52. ME 1, TE 1.75. Excellent and shiny bore and rifling. Chamber in the white.
Flash Hider- Hart M2. Heavy-type. What some collectors refer to as "milled". They were in fact "stamped/die-cut". This is NOT the M1D version with the hump in the middle of the bracket. This is the same as the SA WW2 version, but Hart made these for the 1950s M1C Garands.
Scope- Lyman Alaskan "All-Weather" B-prefix. Ser# B4633. Excellent, original, blued condition. Clear glass and reticle.
Mount- WW2 Griffin & Howe. Ser# 3714186, as numbered at SA.
Receiver Bracket- 1950s slightly higher variant that was made for use with the M84 scope. It is correct for a 1950s-1960s rebuild. Unnumbered, as is correct.
Op Rod- 7790722 SA-used in 1961-69 rebuilds (see note in above text)

This is an excellent condition, original rifle. It would be a great cornerpiece to any collection, as these don't come along every day. C&R eligible.
