Description:
Ithaca SBTG Victory grade made in 1949 and engraved by Walter Kolouch in 1964 for Bill Jaqua of Jaqua's Firearms in Findley Ohio. This is the only gun of the six Walter made that has the rib and posts engraved. Mr. Kolouch was trained by Ferlach as a master gunsmith and engraver. The left side of the action has 4 gold quail and 1 setter, the right side has 3 gold ducks and 1 white gold setter. The lower receiver has a gold eagle with a white gold rabbit in its talons, and a white gold setter with a duck in its mouth. To the best of my knowledge this gun is a full choke and does not show signs of any aftermarket modification.
The gold is 24 kt at .030-.040 thick with 1/3 set into the steel and 2/3 above the steel. The engraving is Arabesque scrolls. The rib and the posts as well as 5 inches of the barrel at the breach are also engraved along with the trigger guard. Per Mr. Kolouch by phone in 2019 $2000-$3000 worth of gold was used to do the gold inlays. In a letter dated Sept. 18 2019 Mr. Kolouch said the replacement cost today would be about $ 17,000.
