Description:
Very Nice Example of one of the highest quality Uberti Reproductions ever made. This is a Colt 1862 Pocket Navy in .36 Caliber with a 4 1/2" Octagon Barrel. Introduced in the Civil War, it's basically a .31 Caliber Colt 1849 Pocket on steroids with a slightly longer barrel. By the mid 1970's, Uberti really upped its game on getting their replicas as close to the original shape and size as the originals. There were numerous importers selling these in the USA but the best ones were brought in by Western Arms out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Western changed it's name to Allen Firearms after Winchester Repeating Arms sued them over the use of the name "Western" around 1981. I think this is one of the earliest Allen Firearms that I've seen. They eventually merged with Cimarron Firearms. These were the highest quality Uberti Replicas ever made in my personal opinion as they would manufacture these to the importer's specs and price points. I ran into a collector at a show recently who met Aldo Uberti in the late 1980's and he told him that they had 5 levels of fit and finish depending upon how much the customer was willing to pay. Well, Western Arms / Allen F.A. were the big spenders back in the late 70's to mid 80's as they were trying to compete with the Colt 2nd Generation Reproductions. You can tell right away when you hold one that's it's fit and finished a little better and the actions are smooth. This one even has the 4 clicks when you cock it just like an original Colt from the 1860's era. Being 42 years old, it has been handled a little , mainly just someone holding and working the action but it's never actually been fired. The special order charcoal blue is about 98% on the barrel and cylinder with a little edge wear. Excellent case colors on the frame, hammer, and loading lever. Walnut grips are excellent showing only a few tiny handling marks. Very nice roll engraved cylinder scene depicting a stage coach robbery just like the original Colt 1849 and 1862 Navy. Nice screws and that really nice typewriter Allen Firearms address on the top of the barrel. The "For Black Powder" only marking is tastefully concealed under the loading lever...not out on the side of the barrel like so many replicas from the 1980s and 1990s.
