Payment Types Accepted: About Us: cowboy action shooter Description: I am not a Winchester collector. I do not know a bunch about 1886's. If any collectors have input on this gun, I would appreciate sharing it with me. I bought this rifle from Cabela's in Gonzales, Louisiana about 20 years ago it seems. It was made in 1888. The original caliber was 40-65 WCF as per a research done by Bob Blair(Avid Winchester Collector) a long time ago. He is gone but not forgotten. If I remember right, the rest of the configuration is correct except the "Climbing Lyman" sight may be an add later. The 33 WCF came out in 1902 and it was not unusual for owners to rebarrel from the older black powder(40-65 WCF) to the new higher speed smokeless powder round(33 WCF). The bore of this gun is very good and bright and the wood is extra fancy with faultless checkering. Faint traces of the Color Case on the receiver. The barrel and 3/4 magazine are still covered in bluing. I am getting older and do not shoot as much as I used to and have never shot this rifle. I was scared something would happen to it. I have 8 rounds that I got from a friend that reloads this caliber. Parent case is a 45-70. The pictures tell a lot.
