The Remington 1903A3 is a modified version of the Springfield 1903. In 1942, during WWII, the US military made changes to the original 1903 rifles to streamline production for the war efforts. The sights were changed and the trigger guard/bottom metal were changed to stamped metal rather than the machined pieces of the original rifle. Among other minor changes, these updates allowed faster production at lower costs with little to no performance loss.
Rifle serial number is 4039042. According to serial number charts, this rifle was built in 1943. The barrel is stamped \"RA 7-43\" with the flaming bomb. It is possible that this is the original barrel that that is unknown. The bore and rifling are in great condition. Shiny and crisp. It appears to have 2 groove rifling.
Overall, the rifle is in nice shape. Some of the smaller parts appear to have been replaced. Unfortunately, the history of this rifle is unknown.
