Description:
Desirable A.H. FOX “STERLINGWORTH” Double Barrel 12 Gauge SxS SHOTGUN C&R

Light & Handy 12 Gauge Side by Side Circa 1912

Here we present an A.H. Fox Sterlingworth 12 Gauge Side by Side Shotgun, manufactured circa 1912 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ansley H. Fox was the designer and founder of A.H. Fox Gun Co. He designed this light and nimble “Sterlingworth” shotgun for the field. It was not as fancy as some of his other models, but it was affordable to the everyman and featured reliable quality in a very light package. This gun is lightweight making it a great one for the field. Fox shotguns were made in Philadelphia from 1903 to 1930 when the company was bought out by Savage. Foxes came in all grades from the relatively plain “Sterlingworth” up to highly ornate like the “F” grade gun that accompanied Teddy Roosevelt to Africa.

This neat little shotgun features nicely grained walnut stock and modest but neat engraving on the frame. Double triggers and extractors. The left and right sides are marked “STERLINGWORTH”. The top of the barrel is marked “STERLINGWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL / MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA.PA.U.S.A.”.

The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Strong action. The bores are bright, but have been bored out. Solid stock. The wrist is nicely checkered. Markings are legible. Numbers match.
