Sharps M1853 Slant Breech percussion carbine.Very low Serial # 9012 (one of 5,000 Nov 1855-Dec. 1857?). .52 cal. Known as the 'John Brown (Harper's Ferry) or 'Beecher Bibles' repeating rifle. Barrel patent marking (top) C.Sharps, Sept. 12, Hartford, Conn.1848 (#5,763). Long saddle ring bar. 21" barrel, 37" overall smooth with light patina. Walnut stock and foestock very good., Brass band, butt plate and patchbox (with extra percussion nipple). All markings sharp. Strongly rifled bright bore showing slight wear. Front and rear sight with elevator slide. Action perfect and sharp. A very fine original Sharps.
