Here we have a heavy arsenal reworked Colt frame fitted with Remington Rand WWII slide chambered in .45 auto caliber. Designed by John Browning, the M1911 is the best-known of his designs to use the short recoil principle in its basic design. The pistol was widely copied, and this operating system rose to become the preeminent type of the 20th century and of nearly all modern centerfire pistols. It is popular with civilian shooters in competitive events such as the International Defensive Pistol Association and International Practical Shooting Confederation. The .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol), also known as .45 Auto, .45 Automatic is a rimless straight-walled handgun cartridge designed by John Moses Browning in 1904, for use in his prototype Colt semi-automatic pistol. After successful military trials, it was adopted as the standard chambering for Colt's M1911 pistol. This Colt frame was made in 1918. The pistol has had necessary parts replaced and the frame and slide have been refinished. The action works smoothly and the trigger is better than most mil spec triggers. Grip panels are quite nice and the lanyard loop is intact. Though this fine pistol has been through an arsenal rework it is a very nice historical gun that has almost certainly seen action and would make a great addition to a collection of American military firearms.
