Description: U.S. marked Colt Single Action Army chambered in .45 Colt. The serial number (82794) dates the frame of the revolver to 1882 and it started its life as a Cavalry Model with 7-1/2 inch barrel. Like most U.S. revolvers, the gun was arsenal refurbished and the barrel cut down to 5-1/2 inches. From 1895 to 1903 several "U.S." marked Single Action Army revolvers were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were dismantled, refinished, and modified to 5-1/2-inch barrel length for use with smokeless powder. The mass arsenal rebuilds resulted in a mix of serial numbers and markings. The trigger guard ("131231") dates to 1890 and the back strap ("47388") dates to 1878. The underside of the barrel is stamped with a "P" proof and inspector initials "D.F.C.". The left side of the frame has the two-line address followed by "US." The included factory letter confirms the original shipment of the frame to the U.S. government inspector at the Colt plant on 30 October 1882, and has additional notes that it was returned to the factory for refurbishment and reassembly in Artillery configuration and reshipped on 15 July 1901. Comes with a "US" marked leather holster and leather belt with "US" buckle. .45 Colt SOLD Metal Condition: Good with Handling Marks and Finish Wear Wood Condition: Good with Handling Marks and Wear Bore Condition: Slight Darkening with Light Pitting Barrels: 5.5 inch Butt Pad: Walnut Weight: 2 lbs 4 oz Item Location: Fort Worth, TX |
