Here is a historic Civil War Colt 1862 Police inscribed to A. D. Sawyer 2nd Mass Volunteers. The gun itself is a standard 6 1/2" Colt 1862 Police, condition is just a nice untouched patina throughout with traces of case hardening in a few protected areas on the frame. The grip is good condition. The action functions. The 2nd Mass Volunteers was a unit that saw many battles, Gettysburg being the most well known. When searching the records you can find that Mr Sawyer was present at the battle of Gettysburg and he would've been carrying this pistol. Truly a excellent historical artifact!
