Description:
SOLD  1/9/24   MARTY J. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"W.F.&CO.EX."  Smith & Wesson First Model American, serial number 3298, with the barrel shortened to 5.5 inches during its period of use, as was common with 19th century revolvers purchased by the various express companies, nickel finish,  and the Wells Fargo "W.F.&CO.EX." marking on the right side. Matching  numbers appear on the butt, right grip panel, and assembly numbered frame, cylinder, latch and barrel. I purchased this revolver, in June 2002, at the Las Vegas, Riviera Antique Arms Show.  A letter of authentication is included.
As S&W expert Roy Double pointed out over fifty years ago, "This was a work gun; a big, heavy-caliber holster gun worn openly and ready to hand; a timely gun indigenous to America on the move and a part of America's greatest adventures.
