Description:
Serial #13148, .70 Caliber, 42 1/2" barrel with a fair, darkly freckled bore. This is a well-made and sturdy musket that has an overall armory bright finish with scattered small spots of thin, plum-brown freckling along its length, most noticeably on the blunt-faced lockplate. The metal was cleaned long ago, but the high edges and markings were left crisp and clear, including the "VAUD" cantonal marking on the left side of the barrel breech. There are some small patches of pinprick pitting at the unusual stirrup-style rear sight, barrel breech, and around the nipple bolster as well. The matching numbered stock is in about fine shape with an armory reapplied military oil finish over scattered small handling marks and minor surface blemishes. Additionally, there are some small scratches in the wood just ahead of the lockplate, as well as a large discolored area on the left side of the wrist. The "VAUD / 13148" stock number is still crisp and clear on the left side of the buttstock. The action is fully functional, and an original ramrod is included. This is a rarely seen Swiss percussion musket, with a matching numbered stock, and in about fine condition. Antique
