Description:
John Wilkes 20-gauge pair of Best English Sidelock SxS shotguns.

Serial numbers 15234 & 15235.

This gorgeous, matched pair of 20’s has 27” barrels choked .005” IC and .009” Skeet I with 2 ¾” chambers and London Proved in 1986.  Fitted with a narrow, concave, smooth top rib.

The sidelock actions have nearly 100% coverage of very fine English scroll and roses with oak leaf carved fences.  In addition to the fine engraving the names “John Wilkes” are gold inlayed on the top of the rib, each sidelock and on the bottom with the word “London” added.  Double triggers, automatic safeties and assisted opening

The wood..is nothing short of exceptional!  Whoever originally ordered this matched pair obviously took great pleasure in having these guns fitted with incredibly beautiful, densely grained stocks and forearms.  The English/straight hand stocks have a 14 5/8” LOP to the checkered butt with 1 ½” DAC, 2 ¼” DAH and about ½” of cast-off favoring a right-hand shooter.  The forearms are game-style abbreviated beavertails with Anson front release buttons.

Put it all together and you get a magnificent pair of English Best 20-gauge SxS game guns.  Even with the beautiful dense grained stocks these guns still weigh only 5 lbs. 15 oz. each.  The guns handle very well and feel lively in the hands.

Mechanically excellent in all regards.  Cosmetically the frames retain 80%+ original colors; the barrel blue is thinning on the tops near the breech but still 95%.  Both trigger guards have most of the bluing around the grip worn off.  And the wood is in 95% with just a few light handling marks on each gun.  On many matched pairs, there is usually one gun with significantly more wear than the other.  These two guns are nearly identical with each gun looking as fine as the other!

The pair is cased in a bespoke oak and leather English made take-down luggage case with leather and reinforced canvas cover.  The case is fitted with John Wilkes oilers, cleaning rod and with two fitted turn screws.

Priced as a pair
