Description:
The final wartime revision of the Thompson Submachine Gun, the M1A1 replaced the articulated firing pin in the bolt with a fixed pin on the bolt face, which by that point had become the de-facto standard for SMG bolt design. The M1A1 was introduced in April 1942 as a war-expedient/simplified version of the M1928 Thompson Submachine Gun. This rare SMG is correctly stamped on top of the rear of the receiver with "US PROPERTY", and was built by Savage. The war-expedient features included the elimination of the barrel cooling fins, Cutt's compensator, adjustable rear sight and removable buttstock. They also employed a side-mounted cocking handle and a fixed firing pin with a slightly longer bolt which allowed the weapon to be manufactured on an easier and more cost effective basis. This example has the standard "L" type fixed rear sight, horizontal walnut forearm and fixed walnut buttstock. The right side is marked in two lines "AUTO ORDNANCE CORPORATION/BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT U.S.A.". This gun is in excellent condition, with minor high edge wear around the ejection port but minimal finish loss otherwise. Minty bore. Excellent wood furniture with minor handling wear. The listing includes a total of 12 stick mags, and a copy of Frank Iannamico's book on Thompson submachine guns. Fully transferrable. NOTE: This firearm is still in the process of being transferred to us by an individual, so there will be some adjusted wait times before we can submit transfer to a potential buyer.
